What is GPS?
GPS (Global Positioning System) is a worldwide system of 24 orbiting
satellites launched by the Department of Defense. These satellites use
signals sent to the earth to calculate an accurate position within 10
feet or less.
How do Vehicle Location Devices work?
All models consist of 2 main components, a GPS
antenna and a cellular modem. The GPS antenna receives the coordinates of
several satellites orbiting the earth and also the distance to each
satellite. The GPS antenna then applies a triangulation algorithm on this
data to calculate its own position. The vehicle location device’s
latitude and longitude data is then forwarded to the GPS Solution's
Datacenter by the cellular modem where it can be queried and utilized for
tracking purposes. (more
info)
What information does the tracking
device collect?
These tracking devices collect information regarding the vehicle or
object’s location status and speed.
Will the device break
if exposed to adverse weather conditions?
No, the units have
been engineered to withstand the most rigid environment conditions within
the vehicle.
How do I receive the information that is
collected by the device?
GPS Solutions provides several tools that allow you to monitor or locate
your vehicle or mobile asset:
RACO Tracker Software: A
Java based application which works in conjunction with Microsoft MapPoint
and Internet Explorer and will allow you to:
Web Reports: Detailed
reports showing where and when your vehicle stopped during a specified 24
hour period. View and print these reports directly from your web browser
software.
What types of alerts are available?
The device can send alerts via email or pager to indicate a speed
violation or that the driver has driven outside a user defined geographic
area (Geofence). The
device can also be configured to lock/unlock doors remotely,
Enable/disable the vehicle’s ignition, and allow the driver to notify a
remote dispatcher of trouble by pressing a “driver assistance” button.
Can I use a Vehicle Location Device as
medical or life-sustaining device?
GPS Solutions does not recommend using our products for these types of
applications. Although we have built a reliable infrastructure with the
goal of 100% uptime, there are still many factors that can affect device
dependability including cellular coverage, internet connectivity and the
strength of the GPS signals received by the antenna.
Can I track my vehicles outside of North
America?
No.
Tracking is limited to the range of the
T-Mobile data
network.

consists of connecting a red wire to a constant 12V power source
and a black wire to
chassis
ground and
yellow to ignition.
Is the device easy to conceal?
Yes, the device can be installed anywhere in the vehicle as long as the
GPS receiver is not covered or encased by metal. Concealed units are
typically installed under the dash, in the trunk area or in the vehicle
package tray. The unit can also be installed behind the glove compartment
in most large trucks.
What can I use to mount the device?
The units come with brackets, however, double sided tape or tie wraps can
also be used to mount the
unit.
Do you provide installation assistance?
We perform installations
in house and also offer phone support. The device can be installed by any
12V alarm/stereo shop.

Software
What are the system requirements for the
client software?
The standard RACO Tracker client software can be run on any machine with the
client software and Microsoft MapPoint. This includes machines running
Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
Does this
software require a broadband or high speed internet connection?
The software does not require a high speed connection to the internet
although faster connectivity will enhance the performance of the
application.
My computer is
behind a corporate firewall, can I still track my vehicles?
The standard Tracker Client software should work through most corporate
firewalls and proxy servers. If you are still having problems please have
your Network Administrator
contact us for alternative
connectivity methods. The Web Reports
software will operate through any firewall that allows outgoing web
access.
Am I entitled to
new client software releases after I purchase a Vehicle Location Device?
Yes, we are constantly improving the functionality of our client software
and offer each new version to our customers at no charge. Updated
software will be available via download from our website or shipped to
